The Aim of the course is to provide participants with sufficient skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate swimming pool plantrooms, and to maintain the pool water in a condition such that it meets and exceeds the minimum health requirements at all times.
Incorporating the following units from the Community Recreation package:
SRC AQU001B- Monitor Pool Water Quality
SRC AQU002B- Operate Aquatic Facility Plant & Equipment
SRC AQU004A- Maintain Pool Water Quality
SRX OHS001B- Follow Defined OH&S Policy & Procedures
Topics to be covered and outcomes are:
Health Regulations
•to have an understanding of the current Health Regulations that apply to swimming pools and spas.
Water Treatment
•to understand the principles of water chemistry and water treatment as they apply to swimming pools and spas.
•to have a sound working knowledge of all common swimming pool chemicals and their usage.
•to have a basic knowledge of microbiology as it relates to swimming pools and of the bacteria and viruses involved.
Water Testing
•to know how to use the various water testing methods being chemical and electronic (ORP)
Dangerous Goods
•to have knowledge of the Dangerous Goods Regulations as they relate to swimming pools.
•to be familiar with safety equipment associated with swimming pool plant operation.
Aquatic Centre Design
•to have an understanding of the requirements of Aquatic Centre design.
Plant Operation
•to have a basic knowledge of how a plant works such that the participant could operate a plant with minimal further assistance.
Plant Maintenance
•to know the basic operational problems of a pool plant and their remedy.
- to understand the needs for proper plant maintenance schedules.
